| Looking for a place to hunt for the 2000-2001 fall hunting season in the Big Thicket National Preserve?
Have your own private "hunting lease" or "hunting club" without paying those "Big Bucks". These free permits will allow hunters to take white tail deer, squirrel, rabbit, feral hog and waterfowl from specific areas within the Big Thicket National Preserve. The FREE permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Here's what you have to do:
The Beaumont Unit can easily be reached by canoe from our canoe base at Chandlers Landing near the Lakeview Sandbar in Lakeview. National Park Service Preserve Superintendent Richard R. Peterson strongly suggests that hunters not arrive at the school grounds the night before the registration. People arriving between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. the morning of the registration will most likely receive a permit with minimal waiting. In addition, hunters should be aware that possessing an alcoholic beverage, possessing a weapon, or smoking on school grounds is prohibited by State Law. When you have your permit to hunt in the Beaumont Unit of the Big Thicket National Preserve, call Piney Woods Outfitters at 409-751-0911 or E-mail us at canoe@canoetexas.com for further information to make your hunting/canoe trip a success. |
